could be the carbon brushes  a bad connection or even the switch

how old is it and has it been inactive in the cold for a long time!!!!!!!

brushes are a good place to start have a look if you can get it running and see if there is excesive arcing from the commutator/brush vent at the back

i would normaly suggest spinning the chuck with the trigger pulled to start the drill but with chuck lock it wont work Grin

if you know the model number look here
http://www.mtmc.co.uk/prodtype.asp?PT_ID=242&strPageHistory=cat

would expect the brushes are about a tenner

wrong link hang on

this links nearer
http://www.mtmc.co.uk/prodtype.asp?PT_ID=249&strPageHistory=cat

right choose the model number here for the exploded diagram and the cost
http://www.mtmc.co.uk/prodtype.asp?PT_ID=765&strPageHistory=cat
