Posts: 16 Total Thanks: 0 For This Post: 0	lowering kerb Feb 11^th, 2006, 3:17pm i have a drive way big enough for 2 cars but only access for one so im thinking about lowering the kerb in the street,can i just go ahead and do this? id imagine id need some sort of permission or would this be work the council would do themself and id need to pay them for?

i do not want to upset any of you guys here, but Sevenoaks DC in Kent, wants just shy of £1000 for a single width dropped kerb!!!!!!
how ever you can do it your self, if you can show them that you have a £5.000,000 (yep MILLION) liability insurance policy, and are certified for highways agency work!!!!!

but the next big council down the county, it is free!!?? just don't make sense!! do it!!!!

SO DEFINATELY CHECK with the local dc, and GET IT IN WRITTING!!!!!! Angry

If you do it yourself the council/highways will 99% definately condemn it. They have very strict regulations on dropped kerbs and in my experience, it's not worth trying to do it yourself. You have to be able to make good the road tarmac and the pavement ashphalt too, not easy unless you have access to this kinda stuff.

Just pay the fee and it's guaranteed to be done to spec with no come-back to you.

The last one I did (had done) cost me about £200 in High Wycombe (about 15 years ago) so maybe have to double that now?

£1,000 seems a bit OTT. It takes two guys about 4 hours + the cost of buying the kerbs.

im in edinburgh mate,so hopefully the same rules should apply,if you are anywhere near edinburgh you dont fancy giving me the name of the guys who done it cheap?
