nailing floorboards
Mar 6th, 2006, 7:09pm

What is the perceived wisdom re nailing floorboards down?

I am shortly going to be laying about 55sq m of t&g pine  flooring and was wondering what the best way to go about it was.

I guess the choices are secret nailing through the tongues or nailing the faces down using cut floor brads.

The floor is going to be sanded and polished so there is no carpet being layed hence the appearance is important.

Cheers

Martin

Hi Martin,
The firm I'm with still uses t&g floorboards and solid (breeze block) internal walls (traditional builders) we fix them using 50 mm lost-heads dovetail nailed for preference. I think if I was going to sand it etc; I would try and hire a power-cleat type nailer that does secret nailing through the tongue. you would also need to hire a floorboard cramp to pull them together.
Worth making a nice job of it!!!
