another Q for the plasterers?

How do you plaster the 3 or 4 inch areas between the internal angle of a wall and wood work of the door sourround. Seems an awfully small place to get a 12 or 13 inch float into. I assume there are smaller tools to use. What are they????

THanks

Paul

I don't understand?  When plastering up to a door lining there is no architrave fitted.  You just plaster from the internal corner to the face of the door lining so the size of your float is of no consequence.

When the plastering is all dry and finished, the architraves are fitted and these cover the join between the plaster and the door lining.

Thanks for response but i did not explain properly ???

The house is 90 yrs old and the door woodwork is already in place so i have to skim around the existing door woodwork- hence the 5 inch gap

I think what Pault is on about JD, is when you have a door about 3-4" away from a  dividing wall  such as

....L/ _____  with the forward slash as the door!! Opening against the dividing wall!!!!

so Pault try this... http://www.axminster.co.uk/name/plastering+trowel/sfile/1/jump/0/product-Marshal..., or do as i have done in the past, i cut down an older trowel..... to 3½" width!!

You could always try one of these

http://www.axminster.co.uk/src/2006_wk24/recno/15/product-Marshalltown-Internal-...

They are really designed for dry lining but may work if you have the space

that little tool is called a twitcher, but you wont get a great finish with it on skim as it is designed merely for forming a neat internal corner on wet plaster However if you used it to run aimes, which is tape jointing compound, in your tight corner then you could form the angle and covering you want, albeit somewhat roughly, then sand it down with fine paper for a perfect finish. This is assuming the twitcher fits the gap perfectly!!!
Better still is to buy yourself a 14" by 4" Marshalltown skimming trowell. (a standard trowell is four and three quarter or five inch) and use the heel or head to run the skim a little at a time or the same method with aimes would be easier. Theese size trowells ar the bees knees for skimming but not many of the treacle spreaders use them so you may have to search for one.

if it's an awkward little strip then i use an edging trowel, these are actually designed for doing the edges of artexed ceilings, but i find they work perfectly for this type of application!
