If in doubt, dig it out.

Roof Joists and Woodworm
Sep 27th, 2006, 4:56pm

Chaps,

Are new roof joists pre treated for woodworm. My house had an extension built in the late 90's and it included a new roof. I have just finished treating the existing 1930's roof timbers and was wondering whether I need to spray the new ones as well.

Thanks

Gammy

new timbers are not usually pre-treated for anything such as woodworm!! they may be tanalised and that is about it!!!

so i'd spray it all dear chap!!

I've just been working in the loft of a 10 year old house and the tell tale signs are there, flight holes everywhere Sad

Another vote for the sprayer.

probably some softwood like pine.

In the old days they used decent wood to make the roof, these days they use... Oh Dear!....cheap pine.

Your Roof Truss *is* the sacrifice!

check the roof structure.  Woodworm like fairly damp conditions - any condensation probs ?  Ventilation ?  leaks ?
