You should find that these ones are the best there is Big_al, and they are made by CMT, ..originally they made them for the DW625 Router, and then Trend started buying them from CMT, now CMT do a replica of the DW625, so produce them under their own Brand name, hence the same item for a lot less! , i actually own 2 of these little babies, (save having to swap them out!!!!)

I've had rave reports about the Extreme extensions, they are expensive but make bit changing in the router table a lot easier, but at a price.

I've just bought a Trend extension but it's the same price as the Extreme, it has the same locking mechanism as fitted to the DW625 rather than a simple collet as fitted to the CMT, hence the price.

I am perplexed W/S, my CMT collet extensions are identical in engraved shank serial/part number to my OFFICIAL DEWALT one, and also my TREND version! (only trend has an 8MM adaptor at the end!) the only real difference i can find is that the CMT has a two flats nut which still clips to the multi split collet, whilst the DW/Trend have a full multi flat nut!!!

I use the xtreme xtension and now wouldnt have a router without one ! In fact ive just bought another one for the dedicated router in the Legacy Grin

. One turn of the alan key and the cutter is locked in , better than messing around with a spanner ! Ive used it with raised panel cutters and it really does hold them in there . The xtreme is better for router tables and the Legacy but there is also the Eliminator chuck for hand held work . Try Roger here .....http://www.woodworkersworkshop.co.uk/ Expensive but you wont regret it !

i have just realised the rutlands is identical its just the word "xtreme" is a descriptive term where as is the "emblazened" product name on the other one Shocked

Wolf these are the collets from the Trend on the left and the CMT on the right. The CMT is a 1/4" extension the Trend is a 1/4" collet that fits into the 1/2" extension so it is not exactly like for like.

the only thing that keeps me well away from things like the extreme collet extension, is the very fact they have a grub screw to retain the cutter, unless there is a leather washer (very much doubt!!!) there is always the ability of it working loose, and that is not taking into account of the fact the thing will rotate slightly out of balance!!! and the higher the rpm, the greater the eventual and hastened wear upon the routers bearings ............

but that is my personal opinion and experience!! only.....
