Door frame widths?? (Read 5949 times)

Door frame widths??

In our new house, I have 100mm blockwork downstairs which will be dry lined (12mm boards I assume) and skimmed (dot and dab) What width frame should I fit? Also I have 90mm studwork up stairs which will be faced with plasterboard (12mm I assume?) and skimmed- again what width frame should be fit??
Howdens standard sizes are 4.5 inch (which is only about 4.25 inch when measured!!) or 5.5 inch which is probably about 5.25 inch measured!! Please can you advise. Also should they be fit before plasterboarding or afterwards ?? Huh

Your blockwork walls will likely end up 155-165 depending on how thick the dabs are. (3+12.5+10/15+100+10/15+12.5 +3)

Your studwork will end up around the 120mm mark (3+12.5+89+12.5+3) assuming its actually 89mm CLS studwork

The sizes of the linings are based on the nominal sawn size, once this has been planed you tend to loose 3mm per size. Thats why they measure 1/4" less than stated. The standard lining are to suit 3" &4" blockwork with two coat plasterwork.

You will either have to have some timber planed up to the finished widths from 32mm sawn or rip up some 25mm MR MDF.

Linings should be fitted before plastering, my preference is to fit the lining on the hinge side then hang the door and pack the lining to suit the door. This saves having to shoot the door to fit out of square linings.
