NSB40 fuse to 45Ampere (Read 3737 times)

elliotbright GDPR opt-out	NSB40 fuse to 45Ampere Jan 31^st, 2009, 4:55pm can an existing NSB40 fuse and existing cable be used to install a range cooker with a 45Ampere minimum capacity requirement?

Usually, by the time you apply some diversity factors to the cooker, you will find it will sit easily on a 40amp device, and even on a smaller one.

Applying diversity as follows...

the first 10 amps + 30% of the remainder, so 10 + 10.5 = 20.5 amps. If the cooker panel has a 13a socket outlet incorporated in it then 5 amps would need to be added giving 25.5 amps.

This is also dependent upon how long the run of cable is, how its fixed or housed or where it runs through. What size is the cable at present?

If diversity is followed and everything above is ok for the cable then a 40a fuse will be adequate.

But yes, different allowances (or none as the case may be), apply to commercial situations.
