Guys,
When you construct a dormer window do you bolt the wall studs to the strengthened roof trusses or can I fix a base plate to the trusses and nail the studs on?

By "trusses", do you mean rafters or trimmers?

Sorry, yep I mean rafters. The front wall of the dormer should be bolted to the rafters using timber connectors or grip washers in between -and then the rest of the dormer sides built off the reinforced rafters ?

What you're proposing sounds OK, You've doubled everything up and trimmed the rafters. The dormer timbers just pick up off the rafters and the trimmers/purlins, fixed any way that ensures they're sound.

That's ok then. It's just that if it was very wide you might need a beam under the ridge.
