Anyone know of a good, free (or ridiculously cheap) forum software?

Most are free  Wink

YaBB (this one) which uses a flat file system, which is fine for standard size forums.  Requires PERL on the server.

PHPBB, uses a SQL database for speedier and larger forums.  Requires PHP on the server.

A paid-for forum which is excellent is IP.Board, I think this has a one off purchase fee with free upgrades of around £100.  Very powerful tool.

You've lost me Lec. Any lapse into acronyms sends me into a coma, I'm afraid.

Is there one out there that comes as a, more or less, turnkey operation?  Undecided

I didn't use any acronyms!

YaBB is the name of the forum software, and is free to download, use and edit for your own needs.  It works out of the box, but does take a little configuring on the server.  Not too hard.

PHPBB is the name of another free forum software, it takes a little more knowledge to install, but will run quicker than YaBB does as it uses a SQL database.

For a beginner I would point you towards this software.  It is easy to install and use.

If you need any help, I would be happy to assist.
