Log Cabins.......value for money?
Feb 9th, 2005, 8:05pm

Hi Guys

I want to throw the wife out!.....well not exactly, I mean I need office space in my spare bedroom.  So her hobby room has to go(haven't told her yet!) Shocked  I'm thinking about one of these Scandinavian log type cabins www.dunsterhouse.co.uk 2.6m x 2.3m approx in the garden.  The prices seem a bit high to me, as you don't even get glass or felt with some.  Yet they wan't a few quid short of a grand for it!

Has anyone had any experience with them, and are they good value for money?

Also is it worth me having the kit pressure treated, prior to erection?  As they don't come treated!

Modern log cabins are engineered to fit properly.
They are not intended to have preservative in them but have a coat of stain that keeps the weather out.
From what I can see of those ones they are only 28mm, 35mm or 45mm thick so are not really log cabins which should be thick enough to need no insulation as the log size timbers should have enough natural insulation.
They lok more like glorified summer houses than proper log cabins, which would cost a lot more that those.

Ye I agree, I don't know why they call them log cabins, not a log on them!  But not many people can afford real log cabins today, except cricket clubs etc.  No doubt I will need to insulate the lets say, shed! if the walls are only 28mm thick.  So what about pressure treating them, will it be a good idea?

i am getting my txg shiplap preasure treated at the cost of an extra£45 aproximately 26sqm[shed size 10ft by 12ft x6ftish high at the side]

preasure treating is better than surface treating with spray or brush as the penetration is a lot deeper
