Texecom Veritas 8 or R8 (R having a remote keypad, and the 8 having the keypad on the main panel).

These are priced keenly enough even if you only wish to use 3 zones.

A bit late on this topic, but never mind!

My choice:  Scantronic 9651, panel in loft or airing c/bord, RKP at top of landing, and additional RKP at bottom.  Looks neat only showing slim RKP's, all for same price as veritas R8.

Option to expand system in future, to full house.

Texecom versus scantronic - no match.

Texecom is far superior Grin

One RKP at bottom of stairs is fine - use the hall detector to initiate the entry timer on part set.

having a RKP upstairs is a waste of time and money IMO.  RKP's are intended for entry routes.

No RKP upstairs! how do you unset the system to go down for a drink in the wee hours?  Roll Eyes  I think greg want's to enable the system from upstairs as he gets in bed.
Each situations different, some people only want an alarm active while asleep upstairs.

Texecom sounders- the best.

Texecom panels- O.K

Scantronic panels-one of the best. Grin

one RKP in hall.

Go out shopping - press full, leave by front door, as front door shuts, alarm arms.

Go to bed - press part, leave by going upstairs, exit time expires, alarm sets,

Go for a drink downstairs - walk downstairs, entry time starts as hall PIR picks you up, enter code, job done.

Unsetting a system from a keypad when the entry time is not running confuses everyone.

As greg said in first post 'down and upstairs landing to be enabled' eg: pir top and bottom, pir in mid landing.

Scenario no rkp at top of landing, you wake up half dazed, walk down stairs, alarm starts entry timer, noise from rkp downstairs wakes up other sleepers, you don't make rkp in time to enter code, full activation, neigbours also woken-up, kids, wife, husband, neighbours pi**ed off Shocked

Yes you can get away with no rkp upstairs, but for the sake of £30.  I'd rather have the convenience!

An electrcian will sell you any old system he can get from the leci wholesalers. Roll Eyes

A security engineer will decide what's in the customers best interest!

With your scenario....

RKP upstairs.

You wake up tired and dazed, walk past RKP, no entry tone, full blazing alarm.

Entry tone on a veritas for part set is quiet blib.

Lec, Mr Grumpy - thanks for the input.

Can i get a remote for the panel so i can arm / disarm save me having two panels?

What PIR would you reccommend - one would need to give me the ability to set the angle of detection quite tight so as not to set off if the kids wake up to come into us

cheers
