I've been getting a lot of enquiries about apprenticeships recently, many of whom I would love to take on, I just dont have the work to support it. I think the best way in to the trade is to apply to as many potential employers as possible, show enthusiasm, all the normal stuff you would do when looking for a job. Do some research into the field too, try to find out some things about what the job entails. Hell even offer to work for free on a trial or something if you are really interested.

Why do you want an apprenticeship in plumbing is the question you need to ask yourself. In fact it's the question I am asking you! lol

Personally I can't wait to get the hell out of it(interview and police driving test next week!!) and wouldn't encourage anyone to believe the hype re: pay etc.

well i'm in sixth form just finished my exams and i'm looking to leave i've wanted to get into plumbing after my GCSE's but the collage courses were full. like i say am applieing for a short collage course and i can't wait. i spoke to conexections but they were usless, I have had experience on building sites with my uncle whos a qulified plumber , i thoroughly enjoyed the site work,  i think its was a laugh  and i also learned what different tools are for and how to use them.

If you really get stuck try offering to work for one of the better local firms for two weeks "just for the experience" (eg unpaid). Then you can say you have some experience on your future applications, probably even get a reference out of it. I did something similar (ok it was 27 years ago) with an electricians and was surprised to find I got paid at the end of the two weeks. They also accepted me back for a further 8-10 weeks in the college breaks.
