roof ventilation for loft conversion
Sep 30th, 2005, 7:08pm

I am just getting the plans together for the loft conversion I am doing on the "renovation".

The roof is coverered with a triple roman tile and the bottom row rest on the wall plate.

I need to provide ventilation for the roof space and I was wondering if there were any suggestions as to how I go about this.  I realise I need to put ventilation at the lowest and highest points of the roof to provide a flow of air but I am not sure how to go about this.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Cheers

Breathable felt would be my choice, no need for any other ventilation then.

(I'm assuming you'll be taking part of the roof off for this job?)

No that's the problem Jerry, I don't want to start removing all the tiles to replace the felt if at all possible.

Try this website

http://www.ubbink.co.uk/

halfway down the list is 'roof ventilation', take a look there.

This is a massive subject and there are loads of way to achieve compliance with the regs, just pick a system to suit your house.

You will obviously need Building Regs approval for your loft conversion, whoever does the Regs drawings will need to specify the method of ventilation so why not ask him as he knows your property.

It depends on the soffit layout, you need equivalent of 25mm continuous vent at low level and 5mm cont at high level, as well as 50mm clear space for ventilation over any insulation.

but you knew that??
