oooooohhhhhh bu66er guess what was wrong

recently whilst setting up my dewalt 742 flip saw i was having no end of trouble getting the blade dead square [and to stay there]

checked the metalwork square on a strait edge [draw a line flip it over ]lines up perfectly Grin

rips a bit off wood half length flipsover rip the other half
where the rips meet a tiny mismatch in surface as in top off one half a few thow backand the bottom of the other a few thow back now not a lot but doubled at the join

ok no probs get the square out check alignment no visible light between blade and square Huh

mmmmmmmmm

ok wipe all surfaces of the saw the blade and square check square for accuracy on strait edge ---perfect Grin

check on blade perfect Grin

check cut wood still wrong Undecided

guess what was wrong Shocked

Should get one of theseto set yout blade by, mine arrived today Jason

well yes and no Grin

well done that man

my son had dropped the square it was still square but had a dented corner he tried rubbing it with emmery paper but no good so he gave it a couple of seconds on the belt sander Embarrassed

so as i checked the external [now sanded edge ]to set up it was fine but wrong and when i try the internal they aint square Grin

$39.99 inc postage to UK so thats just between £20-25 but I was unlucky and got clobbered for £3.30 import duty and £4.00 for the post ofice to collect the duty.

Expect you are going to be spending the day draw filing the square back to 90 degrees Wink

i don't know if you can still obtain them from anywhere but i was given an engineers plate square many many years ago, came in a box for protection (not that it needs it) its a small 6" bladed engineers square mounted on a ground plate(with 2 corners at 90 deg checked and marked) and with a 1½ upstand to one side so that it can measure/set up a plate/blade and fence all in one go! weighs in at about 2-3lb and is nice and accurate... over the time i've had a few bods try and "borrow" it! Angry

... but it does not leave the workshop!

saves belt sanding kids!!!!!

apparently the engineer that set up my old workshop toys now relys on a digital/laser jobbie!!! Angry

thats not a lot of money if its accurate i always recon call the dollars £s to allow for other charges Grin

to be honest i think i will invest in a complete set of metalwork and try squares as i am getting fag paper differences between half the squares not a lot i know but when your clamping up furniture or frames it can knock them out by a couple of mm over the diagonals

thats sort of what i want to do keep all the accurate stuff under lock and key and only use it when high accuracy is required
