You do not need to use your talk talk password or user ID on the laptop or the PC - The router has this info, and the router keeps itself connected to the internet ready for you.

You need to ensure your TCP/IP settings are correct on the PC for it to be able to connect to the router, and then the internet.

Goto START>RUN
Type "CMD" and press return
When the large'ish' black box appears, type "ipconfig" followed by return.

copy and paste the text that is printed (right click and use 'mark').

or CTRL and printscreen, and then paste the screenshop into paint, save it, and then post it here using www.tinypic.com.

This assumes XP, if it is vista, just type "CMD" into the 'search' box after clicking the START button.

I believe he's suggesting how you can post the current settings here so he can check they are correct.

Its windows XP, Im ok from control panel to internet settings, then you say for 'the wireless connection' can't find this?

Try contol panel -> Network and internet connections -> Network Connections

then right click on the one for the wireless connection and select properties.

then the general tab and scroll down and select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)". Click properties.

Should see this menu but perhaps with different settings. What do they say and are they same as your laptop?



Also worth checking the Authentication tab (eg as well as the general tab mentioned above).

Also worth starting IE on both machines and checking  tools-> Internet Options -> Connections tab -> LAN settings button.

I'm not a super expert on all this but I also had a problem with my WinXP PC. I believe in my case the network connection wizard created an un-necessary "bridge". I note that you may also have a bridge set up so perhaps that's the problems. Unfortunately it's about five years since I did this and can't remember what I did to fix it. It's possible I just deleted the bridge but I don't recommend you do that without confirmation from someone else. I think I would check to see if your laptop also has a bridge set up (look in Network connections as above).
