Tiling & Tanking
May 10th, 2009, 7:56am

I understand the requirement for tanking, but this assumes that the grout / tile layer is not waterproof, if this is so then how should the seal be done around bath tops & shower trays?
The last shower tray I did had the tiles overlap the tray so it was kind of obvious & completely sealed, but now I have one where the tiles are done first. I also have a bath to do where the tiles go up first, or am I doing it wrong & should instal the tray / bath & tank & seal before tiling?

For flat top trays and baths I would tank the wall, stick the tray to the tanked wall with silicone as well as bedding it in as required, tile down to the tray and then silicone again.
