Open up the character map, and on the top left you will see fonts.

slide bar down to you see the word symbol with a double T or L at the front.

the symbol font is a dirty hack from the pre unicode world

basically it puts special charachtors in non standard places in a special font

but this means you can only use the things from it in tools that support chosing a font

otherwise as noticed you just get the correstponding carachtor from a normal font.

does the windows 98 version of charachtor map have a charset settting? (you may need to click on an advanced button) and if so does it list unicode?

you might also try copying charmap.exe from a more ercent version of windows though that may not work.

More research needed me thinks.

must be something to do with the operating system as all the symbols work except the Ω sign.  Grin
