If your using win 98 change the font to L Symbol in the dharacter set box at the top.

Im am still using '98. No scroll bar.
L Symbol?? I have the normal symbol, but when I copy the ohm acrosss, I get a W ???

Open up the character map, and on the top left you will see fonts.
slide bar down to you see the word symbol with a double T or L at the front.

the symbol font is a dirty hack from the pre unicode world
basically it puts special charachtors in non standard places in a special font
but this means you can only use the things from it in tools that support chosing a font
otherwise as noticed you just get the correstponding carachtor from a normal font.
does the windows 98 version of charachtor map have a charset settting? (you may need to click on an advanced button) and if so does it list unicode?
you might also try copying charmap.exe from a more ercent version of windows though that may not work.

must be something to do with the operating system as all the symbols work except the Ω sign.
